Astronomy can be a very daunting hobby to untake for first time beginners. In my Video guides I can show many things regarding several subjects within Astronomy equipment and techinques that I have develop myself over 30 years experience into Astronomy. My video guides have been published in Astronomy for Beginners (A4B).
“Please be aware that as of 20th January 2020, I no longer endorse A4B. My early videos will remain unaltered at this time but A4B are no longer a part of the creative team and have no rights to my videos”
Now I have moved on from the group, I've missed so many friends, and I knew superb and talented people in Astronomy who made A4B for it stands for.
IT'S TIME FOR A NEW CHANGE, NEW LOOK above all , IT'S TME FOR...…… MP ASTRO

Wow those images are fantastic ☀️ great video Marty
@@sam5729 thanks for watching Sam, I'm planning another editing video, but I need clear skies and the sun to get the captures I want, in the UK weather is terrible at the moment, so I have to wait while for it improve.
Thank's Marty, Really like your videos on solar and setups. I actually overhauled a 5in refactor with a Altair Solar stack, I.R-U.V filter and a Daystar Chrom and Prom eyepieces., and, Daystar F/R a back-focus tube and a ASI 294 Color Pro camera. Everything is working very nicely. Thanks to those videos and guidelines you posted.👍👍👍
Nicely done, Martin! I've also used AutoStakkert 2 and RegiStax 6 to stack images. I'm in a tough transitional phase of my life, where I haven't been able to do much observing for quite a while, but I hope to get out in the field once again, at some point, especially now that I live so close to a dark sky site. Several of your tutorial videos are still go-to references for me, when I need a refresher on things, so thank you for doing this.
Thank you for your positive comments, I apprieciate from my viewers who use my videos as important advice. I'm looking at making more videos on post processing, though it's not easy to do, sometimes live recordings can be nightmare, if you try to show what your doing on photoshop, sometimes the image could go wrong some where, it's very tricky to master and correct your mistakes without looking stupid in the process!! It will take some careful planning, but look out for more of these videos, at least one thing I did not cheat using AI technology, so many top Astro channels are using AI prrograms, which I feel it makes people lazy!!!
Thanks as always Martin!!!
Thanks again!
Nice job where did you set your quark dial adjustment at?
The Anstrom setting is set 2 clicks to the right
Hi, Marty., Is your DayStar Quark Eyepiece a Ha Chromosphere or Ha Prominence model?
It's a Chromosphere model, which I think is the better all round performer
awesome 😊tnx
Thanks Tommy!!
Interesting.
Fantastic and helpful video, many thanks for making this, all I need now is photoshop,
Great to hear!
Just wow....I was always told that this type of scope was only for visual use but these photos are really really good.
Was there a reason the 1/4-20 tripod mount screw was not used instead? Its a single hole and would carry the cold deeper into the camera body.
That is awesome absolutely awesome results. Now it makes me want to go out and buy a short tube eighty.
Go for it!
Thank you, Martin for your videos.Great job on upgrading the ST80.Which, by the way, is a very popular telescope? So you are helping a lot of people out there get more enjoyment out of their telescope.
Yep this real evidence, no BS!! I will not launch a video if this project didn't work, but it does and yet so many viewers do not like my video because it hits the nail with hard facts!!
I'm planning on getting a short Eighty from orion soon, And I plan on tuning it up, So thank you.
Good luck 💯 Michael 🍀🍀🍀 You won't be disappointed!!
Hi Martin, I am looking at buying one of these second hand but cannot figure out how to mount the finder shoe to the telescope as there is only one bolt hole It did not come with any adapter plate. Do you have any details of the plate or adapter that is needed ? THU.
Unfornately it seems they have done away with single hole finderscope brackets, But maybe this one will fit, I think you need a M6 screw with a either dome or flat head is needed to fit this on the Equniox 66. here is the link www.firstlightoptics.com/finders/astro-essentials-advanced-finder-shoe.html
@TwoHandUke here is the link again just in case UA-cam deletes it? www.firstlightoptics.com/finders/astro-essentials-advanced-finder-shoe.html
@@MPAstro Thanks Martin. Do you still have your one, and would touch still recommend it ?
@@TwoHandUke I sold mine a few years ago, I now have a Altair Astro 66ED instead which as better focuser but same Optics, this scope is used as my solar imaging scope
@@MPAstro That is exactly what I’m looking for. A scope that I can use with my Daystar Quark.
Alright Martin, great video and advice. all the best mate!
Thanks, you too!
Cut the music intro, just the facts and rehearse to reduce the time.
What size are the pixels ? What sensor does it use ? How many pixels ? That is OK just went to High Point Scientific and got the information from their web site. And a movie is not good enough for a review. My views of the moon are just as good with the ZWO ASi 224MC . I do not use Sharp Cap but the app that came with the camera from ZWO web site that you have to get to turn on the camera. The results are out standing. And the post processing is so easy and comprehensive to use. Too long to watch.
I did mention the pixel size and size of sensor. You didn't listen to the video properly, so sorry the video was too long for you, I must try harder to improve on my videos, However the video is there to show how the camera performs and if you watched it long enough, I taken some great images from it Good luck on 224MC it's a great camera, it's a bit more sensitive with 3.75micron pixel size and much larger sensor than the ASI120MC. Wish you clear skies!!!
What adapter is that on the end of the focuser tube? Been looking for a replacement. Thanks.
It's 2" to 1.25" Eyepiece adapter
@@MPAstro The one here at 19:55? Just wanted to be sure. Thank you. I need something that has threads which will screw directly onto the focuser tube
@@mrtransistor6173 that is the standard 1.25" focuser, the threaded part is a T2 thread where you can attach a DSLR t ring
@@MPAstro Thank you so much! I'm quite new to all this, so a lot of learning.
@@mrtransistor6173 yep it's better to start learning and use basic equipment. Don't be those people who just use smart tech and smart telescopes, cheating their way, and just doing the lazy way of Astronomy and using AI to process images for them. Point taken it's great technology don't get me wrong, but you learn nothing from it. Have a purpose, have a goal, have a real sense of achievement and enjoy Astronomy the way it should be done!!!
Most underrated chanell im thinking to buy dobson xt8
I strongly agree, Being under rated means I am too honest, fair and always true to my viewers. YT doesn't want channels like mine, I noticed my views have dropped so much after the Aurora videos I've made!! Typical yet YT boosts the Astro Channels who are sponsored to give radical reviews on Astro gear we all cannot afford in real life. Everything is just a fantasy land and a total lie. Anyway yes Dobson XT8 is defo a top scope, not too big to be lugged around, and still offer plenty of light grasp, You won't be dissapointed!!
Yes, to be honest, it is not an easy way, it is not makeup like the most channels to get clicks. But stay honest, you will get your success. One more subscriber here. Well i go to the dobson xt8 because I see some reviews, and for a beginner, it is a good way, I guess. And I can get it for half of the price because I buy it in second hand. And hope with more from your tips I can it improve a little more. Hope see more from you 💪💪💪
Excellent presentation of the Quark. The Images are outstanding, and the tutorial is very clear. Congratulations and keep up the good work.
Hi Martin Thanks for another great video and congrats for sussing out the issue with the image scale and being able to fix it. As you said in your video, problem solving is what astronomy is all about! Keep up the good work mate and I look forward to your next film. Simon.
bad link.
thanks for letting me know, here is the new link to the solar finder www.altairastro.com/altair-solar-finder-scope-kit-with-universal-base--stalk-2509-p.asp
Martin the "Quark Fixer"! I wonder how the Daystar reducer would work in this setup? It's there reducer made for the Quark to get Full Sun imaging. You always tell the TRUTH!!! Thank you very much for this series and hope more coming?
The Quark Reducer is one to have, due to its Optics, there is minimal distortion. It's non-spherical. I am so surprised that my video is the only one that covers full disc solar work for the Quark. Just you watch someone will release a video and claim that they came up with this idea, and make no mention of my channel.
@@MPAstro Cool I have it but not tried it. I recall your 0.5x 1.25 reducer eyepiece screw on and I think you trbeied that in your video, but I will add the 20mm ext tube as well. Thank you MP Astro!
The annoying thing about Daystar, you have to buy the 2" eyepiece holder for the Quark in order for you to fit the 0.5x focal reducer. Why can't Daystar include a 2" Eyepiece holder as standard with the Quark
Cracking video Martin, I’m pretty new to solar imaging with my Quark too. I think you’re also in Fife? After watching your video I’ve went and found a 174mm on eBay at a decent price so cannot wait to give that a go. Currently using the ASI533mc pro - like you said I reckon I’ll get far better details and contrast with the monochrome. Keep up the great videos ✨
Yes mate, I do live in Fife. That's awesome news that you managed to get a secondhand ASI174MM, you won't be disappointed with it, such an amazing camera. Mono is the way to go for Solar
With your 72ED Refractor at 420mm focal length, You'll get the the full disc image with the 174MM camera. You'll need the Daystar focal Reducer and the same spacing as my set-up, Then you should be good to GO!!!! No need for a Solar scope
@@MPAstro awesome! I actually have the Sw Esprit 80ED now but also have a 50ED I was going to try with the Quark, think I should manage a full disc with that. Excited to try out the mono cam! Will just need to learn how sharpcap works and I’ll be good to go!
@@Astro_George_ probably you need to extend the spacing a bit more, but let us know how you got on?
@@MPAstro yeah gonna give it a bash soon but will certainly let you know how it goes. It’s all been trial and error but I absolutely love solar imaging with the quark especially.
Hi, very nice images! I must try the ZWO tilt adapter too as I have quite noticetable newtonian rings during imaging/viewing the Sun with my Daystar Quark.
Yep the tilt adapter is not a cheap item, the Daystar one costs around £198 which is totally ridiculous for the price, even though it's well made. I was lucky to get mine for £98 secondhand from Rother Valley Optics
I'm much more into DSO's than anything else, but I have to admit that Sun is pretty exciting these days.
Thanks for another very informative video Martin. Managed to watch the Premiere as it was broadcast. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
My first thought was gosh, it’s a long video. But having watched in its entirety I really appreciate the detail that you go into. Others edit instructions down and lose the smaller details. So that when you attempt the job yourself you make mistakes. Thankyou for this thorough instruction. I’m ordering the bits I need now.
Yep Mark, it's a long video, there are too many channels who make short videos, and instant results. I go through it in detail and show real evidence that it works. Just to make you aware there is a part 2 of this video, defo worth a view
Oh great. I will watch later. Any recommendations on replacing the focuser? I have a big heavy PanaView 32mm which I like but I think it has strained the stock focuser a bit. I’ve refurbed it but I’d like a better one. I see there is a SkyWatcher one at £170 which has mostly good reviews. Be interested in your thoughts. Mark 2:31:36
@@markjordan1530 Yes First light Optics Astro Essentials 2" focuser is a good one!!
Here is the link in case YT deletes it www.firstlightoptics.com/astro-essentials-focusers/astro-essentials-v2-2-dual-speed-low-profile-crayford-focuser-for-newtonian-telescopes.html
Brill. Many thanks Martin.
I'll be watching boyo! As I said, love your passion, Martin! 😁
Yep all good and real astro. No staged shit on my channel
Amazing time-lapse 🌅
Hopefully with the help of this video, you can make your own time lapse of the Aurora, when this rare event happens again!! 🤞
Hi Martin, Thanks for the video. I live in St-Ives Cornwall and have a funny feeling we had a mutual friend in Mal who you mentioned at the start of your video. I could be wrong but dont think i am. I bought his equipment from his family, Ive got my own 8se and im now ready to move onto the eq mount and this OTA. If it was Mal from St-Ives (Liverpool). give me a shout. cheers pal, kyle
Mal was a great guy, he was about to visit me last year, but he passed away that day when he was to visit me. I was totally gutted, something I can't get over it. He was a good friend to me and we talked a lot about astronomy.
I'm glad his equipment has been given to someone who has a passion in this hobby, So I know Mals equipment is in good hands, if there is anything I can help you relating to this hobby and will help, like I did with Mal.
Great results! That black paint looks really dark! I think Skywatcher should provide a better focuser for their achromats. Svbony offers a 90mm f5 achro with dual speed focuser that seems very interesting. Regarding energy rejection, I have used a ST120 with a lunt wedge, so no protection at the lens end and it has gone well, no melting or burning :) All in all that ST102 turned up really nicely modded! Thanks for this video, keep them coming. Clear skies! EDIT: forgot to add: I'm sure you already know, but a baader solar continuum filter helps greatly to improve sharpness and contrast in white light solar imaging.
Enjoy your new super tuned ST102, I've got the Baader filter you mentioned, totally agree you see alot more gradulation surface detail in white light, defo makes the sun much sharper
A great detailed video on how to add electronic focuser, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Martin, dont bite and take any notice of the keyboard warriors and trolls. I always prefer honest people that are not sponsored to sell a product, sick of the corporate schills
Yep I agree, some of these trolls might these who follow big Astro channels, to do their dirty work. When you call out these big channels their followers will attack you!!! Cowards the lot of them!!! Nobody likes the truth do they!!
Well done for standing your ground Martin. Aurora are rare and its not even guaranteed when within the Arctic circle at northern latitudes. For starters have to be in correct part of the suns 11 year activity phase. Currently we are near the peak of the 11 year cycle hence sun activity is high. Then the charged particles have to actually hit the earth magnetic fields, and space is a pretty big place. Since moving to Northumberland seen the aurora several times on the coast and when at Kielder observatory. As you stated need the App and need a High KP index in the red to be visible naked eye and camera. Shame weather has been bad as missed alot
Totally agree 100%
Thanks Martin. Don't let the naysayers get to you, they know nothing and only type their ignorance out on their keyboards. Ban them if you can.
Thanks mate, These Keyboard warriors are the biggest cowards, if you ever faced one, I've met one before, which I found out who it was through social media, made this guy looked so small, believe me I am big guy in real life and facing up to this guy, I not quite and I will voice my opinion quite clearly, he ran so quickly , I don't think he'll ever dare try it again, that's sure. Mate If there was one Keyboard warrior I could sucker punch them to the moon and back for a quid, I would be rich and retire Lol.
Good tips, thanks for sharing it with us Martin!
No problem
Defo a lot of folks whose hobby it is to sit on the sofa dissing what other folks do and film. Flat earthers go on astro and rocket sites, creationists on fossil sites, sofa sitters going on adventure sport sites. All I can say is these are very sad people who never helped another soul, you do your thing, and help other folks. Cheers Martin.
I haven't been watching your channel very long stuff a few days but I haven't enjoyed it immensely. I usually watch a channel for a while before I join. I wanna see if I like it, you know. Wave value is the information that someone is providing Has a lot of value for enhancing the hobby, And you're channeled as you take a lot of time and while I'm at work. Thank you very much. So I'm going to be hanging around your channel quite sometime.
Welcome aboard Michael! I honour what you have to say!! I too wouldn't jump in and sub to channel, I used to sub to the bigger Astro channels now turned out to be fakers, biggest liars and above all they lost complete touch when they used to have this real passion for the hobby!! I noticed that some of these Astro channels have bought subs to gain further onto UA-cam, there so many have done it and cheated their way, there is no way they made above 30K in 2 years, I've been on UA-cam for over 8 years with just merely 9K of subs. I have not bought any subs nor views, this is my 100% real sub count, which clearly shows that loyalty is within my subscribers, they are one's who have supported my channel through years, which so many of bigger Astro channels have forgotten who put them there in the first place, some of these big shot Astro channels will never have what I have!!!
Martin..No AI & BS zone here!!! You can't fix STUPID!!! But you can slap them!
Totally but even slapping them won't work, they only hate more. The only reason why they disregard the Auroras, is that they are too lazy to even look up, even though it's happening around in their area. All thanks to the latest smart telescopes and technology have made them lazy to even just set up. And all thanks to all these top Astro channels who promote this smart telescopes saga!!
Thank you barton for Answering my question on the difference between the s t eighty and the skywatcher eighty, I have been enjoying your channel for quite a few days now.Thank you very much for all your information on how to improve the telescopes that we have.
No worries
Great Timelapse martin I wish I had done that. ignore the haters mate there is nothing to hate always great videos 👏👏⭐️

@@MPAstro looking forward to it good luck mate
I tried this myself, but didn't do as good a job as you did. I kept moving the camera and changing exposures, so the longest I ended up with was a few seconds worth.
Don't worry you'll know next time round. I think we need two cameras, one set for timelapse and the other set for normal long exposure single images!!
Thanks Martin.
Ignore the haters Martin, I always look forward to your videos, keep it up
Always!!! I make sure of that my subs and viewers deserve the real content. I have unsubbed from alot of top Astro channels, who have completely lost touch from the true passion they originally started off. It seems now they can afford to be paid alot money in sponsors, donations and be able to make videos for a living with Luxury expensive Astro equipment simply thrown at them for them to make lies and trick our viewers. It seems a complete joke for the smaller Astro channels who are trying their hardest just to even get monetised!!!
